Who will you be when you give up your pain?

The other day I had lunch with one of my former clients who is now a healer and personal trainer.  I am proud to say that he was one of those clients who knew he wanted to heal, was eager to do so and found it very easy to let go of what was holding him back.

But as we discussed people we were working with we acknowledged that all any healer, coach or trainer can do is give you permission to heal, energy to heal and guidance to heal, but eventually everyone really heals herself. We do this just the way my former client did–by releasing whatever no longer serves–including heavy or dense emotions, connections and sometimes people; by welcoming in that which we need now and actively and effectively working on the issues which drove us to seek healing in the first place.

Here’s a cold hard fact healers and coaches have to deal with:

Not everyone who claims to seek your help is actually willing to change.

There it is, the most frustrating aspect of the wellness industry.  Many, many times the people who you seek to help, the people who seek out your help, are not, in fact, ready to receive help.

Let’s face it, there is a certain comfort to remaining in whatever situation you are in, no matter how toxic.  At least it is the devil you know, not the scary unknown where you don’t know the terrain or where the footholds are.  This is why we tend to repeat patterns from our past or our past lives.  We know them.  They are familiar.  We can even define ourselves by whatever our particular dis-ease is.  We say, I am the way I am because I am allergic or overweight or diabetic or a middle child or short or skinny or nerdy or unlovable or on and on.

And there is almost always a payoff of some kind—sympathy or lesser demands or attention.  For some people, their dis-ease is all of who they are and so they are afraid to let it go.  Then they will have to consider the question for which they have no answer–

Who am I without my pain?

It can be really scary to do the work of healing because it requires us to step out of our pain body comfort zone.  It requires us to really change on a deep level, not just on the surface where switching things up is relatively easy.  It requires the willingness to cultivate  a new, more powerful, more accountable, more integrity filled and integrated self.  This work can be frightening, indeed.

But if you want to live the life you were meant to, with courage and boldness and strength, it is the only work that is really worthwhile.  Then you can redefine yourself without the the limiting labels of the ego.  The first step is to answer the question–

Are you ready to release your pain?

Are you ready to start working on those things that hold you back in your life, your love and your work?  Are you ready to delve deeper into your own psyche, your own heart, your own self than you have before–to examine your wounds, release their energy and begin to reclaim all those missing parts of you and reclaim your power?

I don’t ask for much, right?

But you don’t have to do it all today.  You can take baby steps if you need to. You can peek at your inner self through the fingers covering your eyes if you want to. But if you truly want to let go of what is holding you back, you have to start moving forward.

It’s time to start redefining yourself in the most expansive way possible, to cultivate the biggest possible vision for your life, your love and your work.  It’s time to–
